Praise the Lord. I know many of us are at Christian Ed Congress 2017, and others will be traveling tomorrow, but wanted to share this information. At our last WIM meeting we discussed as a group we would read a book this year and discuss it at our meetings. The book suggestion is "Distinctly You: Trading Comparison and Competition for Freedom and Fulfillment" by Cheryl Martin. The cost of the book is about $10 and less on Kindle. We will have a short discussion of the book at our meetings.

Also discussed was getting our directory completed this conference year. Two of our sisters have agreed to put it together for us and so they are in need of our information ASAP. If you would like to be added to the Directory please send your information to nyamewimdir@gmail.com.  Your information should include your name,  home address, email address, church affiliation, position/title at your church-ex. (Pastor, Rev. Lic., Exh. Evang.) Address of your church, church telephone number. Please submit this information no later than August 16th.

This information will be for us. The directory's will be distributed to WIM members only.

Thanks

Please see the message below from our First District AME/WIM Presidient, the Rev. Dr. Emilygail Dill:

Greetings My Beloved Clergy Sisters,

I trust that each of you are well and rested as we bid adieu to the Summer months while preparing to usher in the Fall season of renewal and reflection. It has been a beautiful Summer and it was a tremendous blessing to see so many of you at our Annual AMEWIM Luncheon in July in Dover, Delaware!

Annual WIM Luncheon
Kudos are extended to Rev. Iona Smith Nze and the women of the Delaware Conference who once again so graciously hosted us for this event. They introduced many of us to The Harvest House of Whatcoat United Methodist Church which is an innovative hospitality ministry of that communion. The venue was beautiful and immaculately kept and the service and food was outstanding. It was a blessing to support and sow into a church-run establishment.

It was also heartwarming to see the genuine support of our sisters at the Luncheon as we celebrated the significant ministry milestones that had been reached by women in the First Episcopal District this past year. God has indeed been good, and this was evident as we stood and clapped and celebrated God at work in the lives of so many of our Sisters. Special thanks to Rev. Kim Anderson of the New York Conference who presented a moving dramatic monologue and Licentiate Dionne Greene of Bermuda, who ministered in Dance. It was a wonderful time of fellowship! To God be the Glory!!

Women in Ministry Summit
We are now preparing for our Women in Ministry Summit which will take place on Saturday, October 3rd at Mount Zion AME Church in Harlem, New York where Rev. Jo-An Owings is pastor.  Our First Vice-President and Program Chair, the Rev. Our Guest Facilitator for the Summit will be the Rev. Dr. Toni Belin-Ingram, who is the pastor of the Greater Turner Chapel AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia and the newly appointed  Chair of Black Church Studies and Assistant Professor at Candler School of Theology, Emory University. Dr. Belin-Ingram is also the sister of our dedicated and very supportive associate member of AMEWIM, Rev. Henry Belin. Our Summit Preacher will be our very own, Rev. Dr. Henrietta Scott-Fullard, Presiding Elder of the Jamaica-Long Island District. Details are as follows:

Bicentennial Celebration
As we move towards the Bicentennial Celebration of African Methodism and our hosting of the 50th Quadrennial Session of the General Conference, it is our sincere desire for all women in ministry to be full participants in this historic moment in our great Zion. Please visit www.2016generalconference.org  for information on the many ways that you can be a part and don't forget that October 1st is the deadline for inclusion in the Richard Allen Memorial Courtyard Project which will be unveiled in July 2016. Be a part of history and have your name or that of your loved ones engraved on a wall brick or paving stone!

WMS Learning Experience
Registration for the WMS Learning Experience in January 2016 has begun! There will be a special workshop for Women in Ministry led by Rev. Dr. Joanne Browning, Co-Pastor of Ebenezer AME Church in Maryland and we are encouraging all clergy women to attend. You may register at http://www.1stdistrictwms.com/Learning-Experience.html.

There is so much more that I could share with you at this time, but time and space will not permit. We look forward to the launch of our website in the near future where we will be able to share all important information. Until then, we are dependent on these missives and our faithful Conference Coordinators to share information.  Thanks for your patience!!

We are grateful for your support of WIM and your commitment to Ministry.

Look forward to seeing you in the next few weeks at the Minister's Retreat and Summit!!

Blessings and Peace

Highlights of the 193rd Session of the NYAC

5/3/2015

Comments

To God be the Glory!

The 193rd Session of the NYAC has finally come to an end. What a week.  Early mornings and late evenings, but it was worth it all. The entire conference was awesome.

We praise God for all the Preached words that went forth and for the workshop that was done by our Episcopal Supervisor, the Rev. Dr. Jessica Kendall Ingram, "The Purpose of Our Brokenness."

Through the Preached words this week, we learned that "It's a fixed fight," We need the Power," there's a need for "Order in the Church" and when we come to the table of the Lord, we must look back at the cross. We must look on the inside, look outward and look upward, yes, "Revival and Communion" go together.

Well, I believe God knew that some of us needed to be reminded that he is a God of his word, so in case anyone missed what was spoken prior, he continued to minister unto us through his word and telling us "At your Word" (meaning God's word), the encouragement continued and we were preached into deliverance with a dance by the word "Haven't  We all been there?" Yes, Lord, we have all been there.

We were reminded of the importance of taking care of that which God has given us, our bodies. So we were reminded as to what to eat or not eat, when is the best time to eat and was reminded that "Our ministry is as healthy as we are."

I believe that we forgot something very important during this Annual Conference. We did not notify ABC News, CBS News, NBC news or CNN. They needed to be present on Friday night as our young people praised God through dance, song, spoken word, puppeteering etc. These young people were awesome. These newscasters needed to see that our children are doing well, they Love the Lord and are walking in their destiny. The house was full of young people and their parents/guardians and those who are willing to work with them. Then on early Saturday morning, the young people were back in Church Praising God and were told to "Read the fine print."

As we wind down to the closing of the Conference, Bishop Young reminded the ordinants and everyone who heard the word, that "We must wear our own clothes." We cannot do ministry being like anyone else but ourselves. Dont try to imitate someone else, use what God has given you.
Then we closed out with "Get out of the way" by our very own Bishop Ingram.

After reflecting on all that was preached and taught during this Annual Conference, we all should be encouraged as we were sent out into the vineyard to do the work of ministry. God has been good to ALL of us.

So my sisters and brothers, to God the be Glory.. We are off to another conference year to use that which God has given us and in spite of the trials and tribulations that may come, my prayer is that we will be reminded of one of the preached word that we heard this week. If you were not present, I pray that someone will share the word with you to encourage you.

Now I ask that we continue to keep our Episcopal leadership in prayer as they continue to lead the next few conferences. Pray their strength as they continue to travel the highways and byways. Pray their strength as they continue to lead and guide us and as they continue to prepare for the upcoming General Conference.

Be blessed and try and get some rest this week.

End of Conference Year Celebration!

Praise the Lord:

Well, it is finally here, the end of another Conference year.  Who would have thought it would come so quickly. Well, whether or not you are ready, Annual Conference 2015 is only 12 days away.

I thank God for this Conference year. We had an awesome time this year. We did some things that we have never done before. We had fun at our very first barbecue meeting in July, our Christmas celebration was great, we had an awesome Black History program, we had the pleasure of having a Chiropractor as our guest presenter at one of our meetings and she offered free massages (for a few minutes), we thank God for allowing us to meet at Churches this year that we have never met in before (Greater St. Paul-Bklyn and Greater Allen Cathedral-Jamaica). So as we come to the end of this Conference year it was decided that we will close out with an evening of Praise and Worship.

Our end of Conference meeting will take place on Friday, April 17th  2015 @ 7 p.m. with a night of "Celebration of Praise and Worship" at Mount Moriah AME Church. We are  also thankful that some of our Associate members will be joining us by participating on the program and/or rendering a selection.

Also, please do remember that during Annual Conference, our luncheon will take place on Thursday, April 23rd during the lunch hour. The cost for lunch will be $20. Please make arrangements to join us for lunch.

Please know that we will be collecting ALL dues during Annual Conference and remember that there is a deadline for Connectional dues for 2014/2015.  All monies must be submitted by the end of the month, so please be sure to pay your dues for 2014/2015 and we will be collecting 2015/2016 dues. In order to vote next year at the General Conference, we must be paid up for 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 Conference years. You want to be a part of this experience, so please pay all your dues so that you will be able to participate in the voting experience.

Thank you all for a wonderful conference year and as we look forward for the upcoming Conference year, we should go in Expecting Greater because we serve a Great God.

WIM Election Results

Praise the Lord my sisters:

I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Praying that you are all well and getting ready for our upcoming Annual Conference. My prayer is that we are all taking head to the weather and not the season. I know as per the calendar, it is Spring, but it feels like January. Please dress appropriately, this way we will avoid getting the flu.

As you are aware the New York Annual Conference Women in Ministry Executive Board election for the 2015-2016 was held on this past Thursday, March 19th 2015 @ People's Institutional AME Church. We thank God for the Rev. Carrie Nobles and the wonderful people at People's Institutional AME Church who welcomed us warmly and also provided refreshments for us.

We also want to thank Dr. Kentia for coming and presented a wonderful workshop on how we can we better deal with the stressors in our lives. We were also blessed as she was able to release some those tensions from our shoulders as she gave massages to all who desired it. Some of us even went home with gifts such as "water pillow."

The following is the New York Annual Conference Women in Ministry Executive Board Members 2015-2016:

  • Rev. Jacqueline Lynch - Coordinator
  • Rev. Paulette Adams - Assistant Coordinator
  • Rev. Denise Parker-Lawrence - Secretary
  • Rev. JoAn Owings - Herstoriographer
  • Rev. Alicia Bailey - Treasurer
  • Rev. Adunola Waterman-French - Worship Leader
  • Rev. Marilyn Flores - Financial Secretary

Wont you join me in welcoming Rev. Flores to the team as we look forward to the 2015-2016 Conference Year.
A special thank you to our nominating committee: the Rev. Dietra Bell-chairperson, Rev. Edna Parker and the Rev. Dr. Linda Hill. Thank you all for a job well done and for carrying out the election process for us. As the Executive Board, we want to say "Thank you all."

As your "Coordinator" for another year, I am excited about what God has in store for us. We had a great year (2014-2015), but I am "Expecting" greater things in this coming conference year, because we serve a great and mighty God who told us that "greater things shall we do."

There is much work to be done my sisters. This upcoming year promises to be like none other. As we the First Episcopal District will be the host for General Conference 2016, we want to be sure that we are involved, we are counted, we are recognized and we are there. If you have not already signed up to be a First District Responder (FDR) I encourage you to do so IMMEDIATELY. Your skills, talents, expertise and know how is needed. Remember, you, me, us, we, need to get involve.

As the Executive Board, we are committed to do the work that has been assigned to us to do. We have worked well in the past and I know that we will continue to do so in the future.

Let me also ask that you commit even now to become more involved in WIM this conference year. As you know, our meetings are rotated each month, so every 3 months, there is a meeting on your Presiding Elder's District. Wont you consider attending at least that meeting? We need you, we need what you have to offer, we need your gifts and talents, we need each other.

Please make sure that you have met all of your WIM financial obligations for 2014-2015, and we have already begun to collect dues for the 2015-2016 conference year. This is extremely important as in order to participate in upcoming Connectional WIM election at the General Conference, we must be paid up for both years. If you have any questions or concerns, please free to ask us or let us know.

I am excited about this upcoming conference year, I pray that you are also.

To God be Glory,

Rev. Jacqueline Lynch

Praise the Lord my sisters:

Happy New Year to each and everyone of you. Praying that we had a wonderful Christmas and that we are at the place of Expectations as we prepare for all that God has in store for each and everyone of us this year.

We are starting the year off with our monthly meeting that will be held on Thursday, January 15th 2015 @ the Greater Allen Cathedral @ 7 p.m.

As you know the First Episcopal District will be the host for the General Conference 2016 in Philadelphia, praying that you have filled out the First Responders Application and submitted it back to the First District. There is a need for all of us to be involved whether or not you will be able to attend the General Conference. There is something for you to do.

We must begin to plan for our closing as the 2015 Annual Conference is right around the corner.

I am praying that you will be able to come out to this meeting as we continue to build relationship one with another and to pray for one another.

Be Blessed and I am looking forward to seeing each of you on January 15th @ 7 p.m. at the Greater Allen Cathedral.

The Day After . . .

11/25/2014

Comments

Well my sisters, I am sure that we all have heard the reading of the decision that was made by the grand jury in Ferguson regarding Police Officer Wilson for shooting to death unarmed Michael Brown.

I don't know about you, but I was not surprised by their decision, but it still hurt and very disappointing. I am reminded that as far as we have come, there is still yet so much further that we have to go and to do.

I believe that this is also a reminder to us that we are to continue to trust and depend on God who knows all things and sees all things.

One thing I am certain about is that not only are we to continue in prayer, but we must also do something after we get up off of our knees, get up out of the bed, or move from the place from which you were praying. It is time for us to get involved in our communities. When was the last time that you attended a precinct meeting or Community Board meeting in your community? How many of us are members of our local NAACP branches and or attend their meetings?
How many of us are members of NAN (National Action Network) or the Urban League?
My sisters we need to and must do something. When I was in the Ministerial Institute, Dean Mackey encouraged us to keep the Bible in one hand and the Times Newspaper in the other. In other words, we cannot be so heavenly minded that we become, or, are no earthly good.

Looting, destroying properties are not the answer. As a people we have more power than we think and one way of showing America and the world just how powerful we are is through our spending. What

As a people, we must be united. We are stronger together than apart, there is power in unity, so can we do that? I know several groups/organizations are planning and are asking that as a people that we boycott shopping on Friday and also on Cyber Monday. Can you imagine if we as a people were to be united and to follow through by not spending our monies on the Friday after Thanksgiving and or on Cyber Monday?

I am not telling anyone to do this, I am just asking, if you can imagine the impact that this would have? The choice is yours and the choice is mines. I just know that our sons, nephews, brothers, husbands and fathers are God's children created in His image and do not deserve to be treated in this manner. As a mother of a son, grandmother to grandsons, sister to brothers, daughter of a father I know that I must continue to pray, seek God's face and direction and I MUST do something.

Let's keep praying my sisters.

To God be Glory.
