Laughter is good for the soul

WIM Meeting - May 21, 2015 - RECAP

Praise the Lord.

I thank God for all the women who gathered tonight for our monthly gathering. We also thank God for the Rev. Karen Horry for her hospitality and for feeding us. That red rice was on the money.

I am not sure what was in the rice, the ice tea, the lemonade, water, chicken, green beans or cake.
This is one of the funniest gatherings that we have had in a long time. There was so much laughter and good fun that was held among sisters. Even as we prayed out we continued with a Spirit of excitement.

It was a wonderful meeting. We learned more about each other that we did not know before. We learned that some of us like to roller skate, and love to be daring. Some of us described ourselves as a Peach, another would describe themselves as an Almond Joy, (you know the song, "sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I dont). We learned that our parents named us, but due to lack of spelling on the part of the ones who wrote our birth certificates, our name is odd. Others are happy for the name given to them, because the alternative, well, let's just say a character in the movie "The Color Purple" would have allowed us to be famous :). Some of us have a brother on our father side, and we do not have a middle name, zero. While others of us are grateful that our training is paying off as there is a job waiting for us as soon as our training is over.We learned that some of us are going to be an aunt again and this time it's a girl. We learned so much about each other while we laughed at each other and with each other.

We also knew that we had gathered for a purpose and did what needed to be done as we continue with the business of the AME Church and  being a Woman in Ministry in the AME Church. We confirmed who has paid dues and were encouraged to remind a sister to pay their dues. We reviewed our calendar for the year and suggestions were made as to some things that as Women in Ministry we must address and will address during this Conference year.

Did I say we had a fun meeting? Ok, because we had a FUN meeting! Laughter is certainly good for the soul.

        Thanks again Rev. Horry, Pastor
                               Mt. Pisgah/Turner Memorial AME Church

Just a reminder, please mark your calendar. Our next meeting will take place on the Brooklyn/Westchester District, the  3rd Thursday of June (June 18th) and it will take place at Madeconia AME Church, Flushing, NY. So mark your calendar and plan to be in attendance.

End of Conference Year Celebration!

4/9/2015

Comments

Praise the Lord:

Well, it is finally here, the end of another Conference year.  Who would have thought it would come so quickly. Well, whether or not you are ready, Annual Conference 2015 is only 12 days away.

I thank God for this Conference year. We had an awesome time this year. We did some things that we have never done before. We had fun at our very first barbecue meeting in July, our Christmas celebration was great, we had an awesome Black History program, we had the pleasure of having a Chiropractor as our guest presenter at one of our meetings and she offered free massages (for a few minutes), we thank God for allowing us to meet at Churches this year that we have never met in before (Greater St. Paul-Bklyn and Greater Allen Cathedral-Jamaica). So as we come to the end of this Conference year it was decided that we will close out with an evening of Praise and Worship.

Our end of Conference meeting will take place on Friday, April 17th  2015 @ 7 p.m. with a night of "Celebration of Praise and Worship" at Mount Moriah AME Church. We are  also thankful that some of our Associate members will be joining us by participating on the program and/or rendering a selection.

Also, please do remember that during Annual Conference, our luncheon will take place on Thursday, April 23rd during the lunch hour. The cost for lunch will be $20. Please make arrangements to join us for lunch.

Please know that we will be collecting ALL dues during Annual Conference and remember that there is a deadline for Connectional dues for 2014/2015.  All monies must be submitted by the end of the month, so please be sure to pay your dues for 2014/2015 and we will be collecting 2015/2016 dues. In order to vote next year at the General Conference, we must be paid up for 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 Conference years. You want to be a part of this experience, so please pay all your dues so that you will be able to participate in the voting experience.

Thank you all for a wonderful conference year and as we look forward for the upcoming Conference year, we should go in Expecting Greater because we serve a Great God.

Praise the Lord my sisters:

Happy New Year to each and everyone of you. Praying that we had a wonderful Christmas and that we are at the place of Expectations as we prepare for all that God has in store for each and everyone of us this year.

We are starting the year off with our monthly meeting that will be held on Thursday, January 15th 2015 @ the Greater Allen Cathedral @ 7 p.m.

As you know the First Episcopal District will be the host for the General Conference 2016 in Philadelphia, praying that you have filled out the First Responders Application and submitted it back to the First District. There is a need for all of us to be involved whether or not you will be able to attend the General Conference. There is something for you to do.

We must begin to plan for our closing as the 2015 Annual Conference is right around the corner.

I am praying that you will be able to come out to this meeting as we continue to build relationship one with another and to pray for one another.

Be Blessed and I am looking forward to seeing each of you on January 15th @ 7 p.m. at the Greater Allen Cathedral.
